Ellis Released Mugshot Sources
There is no official Ellis County released-person mugshot gallery. The county's Alpha Prisoner Listing is a current custody snapshot without photographs, charges, bond, release fields, or released status. A booking photograph is a separate record from the custody-time or release entry, and the sheriff may treat the two requests differently.
| Channel | Has a photo? | How to access it |
|---|---|---|
| Ellis current jail log | No | Use only to check the current printed roster. |
| Ellis sheriff records | May exist | Submit a particular Kansas Open Records Act request; access is not guaranteed. |
| KASPER | Often on covered KDOC records | Search the state offender record and match identifiers. |
| KBI registry | For statutory registrants | Search the official registry only when registration applies. |
| Official agency news or social post | Sometimes | Review a relevant agency release, not a general gallery. |
| Federal sources | Limited | BOP and USMS rules differ; county sources do not control them. |
Commercial reposting sites and news archives may retain old images, but they are not the originating record. No commercial mugshot-publishing or payment-for-removal service is endorsed or linked. Use an official record for custody facts, then deal with any disputed copy through the publisher or source that controls it.
Ellis Jail Log Has No Photo
The current Ellis County Sheriff's Office Alpha Prisoner Listing displays name, booking number, booking date, date of birth, sex, race, inmate number, housing, and prisoner totals. It groups ECSO and out-of-county prisoners. It does not display a booking photograph. Nor does it show an actual release date, release type, receiving agency, or released status.
The stable PDF link is overwritten with a newly printed snapshot. No public photo archive or released view was found. Absence from that list cannot show why the person left. The person may have bonded out, received recognizance release, completed a county sentence, or transferred to another custodian. Verify the event through Ellis County Jail, VINE, and the release or movement entry.
Request an Ellis Booking Photo
Use the Ellis County Sheriff's Office Kansas Open Records Act channel and its records-request form. The form permits paper or electronic delivery and asks for a sufficiently particular description. A narrow request is easier to process than a demand for a custom gallery or list that the office does not maintain.
- Identify the person by full name and date of birth if lawfully known.
- Add the booking number and a bounded booking-date range when available.
- Ask for the existing booking photograph from that booking, if disclosable.
- Separately ask for the existing admission and actual release date and time, release disposition, and receiving agency if transferred.
- Choose paper or electronic delivery and ask for an estimate before work if cost matters.
Do not ask staff to create a narrative. If the photo is withheld, ask for the statutory ground and for any nonexempt records that can be separated and released. A denial of the image does not necessarily bar access to recorded custody time. Treat the photograph and release fields as two distinct requests.
Are Ellis Mugshots Public?
Kansas does not make every booking photograph automatically open. The Kansas Attorney General's KORA guidance states that mugshots are not required to be open and may be closed at the agency's discretion. That local policy detail is central to an Ellis County request. It means the requester may ask, but should not promise that the sheriff must provide the image.
Recorded custody time has separate legal treatment. Kansas Attorney General Opinion 2002-29 addresses custody-time records, while K.S.A. 45-218, 45-219, and 45-221 govern access procedures, fees, and exemptions. If the office needs more time, it may provide an explanation, an expected availability date, or an estimate. Narrow the date and requested fields when an estimate is high.
An expungement is a court remedy that can limit disclosure after statutory eligibility. It is not a routine correction tool and does not rewrite a true historical record. For an inaccurate sheriff field, send the originating office the exact disputed field and supporting official record. For a court entry, contact the court that created it.
Does the Ellis Sheriff App Show Mugshots?
The official Ellis County Sheriff's Office mobile app has been available since November 18, 2024. Its published feature list mentions agency news and alerts, tips, feedback, and social content. It does not advertise an inmate search, a release feed, or mugshots. The app is therefore an agency-news channel, not a hidden roster or booking-photo archive.
The official App Store listing is the source for that feature inventory. An agency may choose to post a photo in a specific public-safety announcement, but that selective post should not be mistaken for a complete set of Ellis County released mugshots. The lack of an advertised feature also means searchers should not rely on the app as the fallback when the jail log has no image.
The official sheriff app listing shows the actual feature set.

Kansas Photos After Ellis Release
If an Ellis County defendant entered KDOC custody, KASPER is the relevant state source. A historical KDOC record can include a photograph, demographics, convictions, case information, current status, and Date Discharged. Search fields include names and aliases, KDOC and KBI numbers, date of birth or age range, county of conviction, and other identifiers.
A KASPER image belongs to the KDOC record. It does not prove that Ellis County released the person to the community, and a county-only booking may never appear there. Match the KDOC number, date of birth, conviction information, and aliases. KASPER updates on working days, so a very recent status can lag.
The Kansas Registered Offender Search is another official photo channel, but only for people subject to statutory registration. Registration is not a universal release list. A registry result can coexist with custody or community status and should be read only for what the registry reports.
Federal Mugshots and Ellis Cases
No federal prison was located in Ellis County, yet a local arrest can still lead into federal custody. The BOP inmate locator supplies custody and release information for people in its system, but it is not a county booking-photo archive. A BOP “RELEASED” result with a past date means BOP custody ended; it does not prove that all supervision ended or that another authority did not take custody.
The U.S. Marshals Service has no general public prisoner locator and limits release of prisoner photographs under its policy. Use the federal agency's record or FOIA channel when federal custody is the actual path. Do not treat a missing federal photo as proof that no booking occurred, and do not use an Ellis image to infer a later federal result.
Verify Ellis Released Mugshot Matches
Start with the custody history, not the face. Record the full name, booking date, booking or inmate number, and date of birth if lawfully known. Compare several non-visual fields. Names can be reversed, hyphenated, misspelled, or recorded with aliases. Appearance also changes over time, so the image alone is a poor identity key.
- Booking photograph
- An image made in connection with a booking; it does not state the final case result.
- Release disposition
- The recorded way custody ended or moved, such as bond, recognizance, time served, or transfer.
- Discharge
- The end of the KDOC status represented by the state record, not merely leaving prison for supervision.
- Expungement
- A court remedy that can limit disclosure when statutory requirements are met.
Use the Released Last 24 Hours page for the same-day county-release fallback, or the Ellis County released inmate search for one person's full custody trail. The best conclusion stays narrow: the image came from the identified booking or state record, and the separate custody source recorded the stated release or transfer event.
